Serving God is not just about working or doing something for God; it’s about obeying His voice (taking heed to do according to all that He commands [Josh 1:8]).
“And Samuel said, Hath the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams”. (1 Samuel 15:22 KJV).
Obedience is the highest and authentic form of service to God.
I like you to think on these
- We shouldn’t serve God because we want reward (though He gives reward), we should serve God because, that is the purpose for our existence (Luke 17:10).
- God created us in response to a need that must be met and living our lives to meet that need is what pleases God.
- Being active is not a replacement for total obedience. It must be according to the will of God and not how we want it.
… Whereupon, O king Agrippa, I was not disobedient unto the heavenly vision: (Acts 26:13-19 KJV)
It is possible to live life in disobedience.
Many people live life doing things that God never commanded them to do.
Obeying God attracts reward because God is not a taskmaster (Isaiah 45:19).
Paul said “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing”. (2 Timothy 4:7-8 KJV).
Jesus also said “…There is no man that hath left house, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my sake, and the gospel’s, But he shall receive an hundredfold now in this time… (Mark 10:29-30 KJV).
Obedience is non-negotiable, if you want to fulfill God’s purpose for your life.
